case study 2 - Smile Design and Tooth Replacement with Dental Implant
We combine dental implants with digital smile design to restore missing teeth with precision and custom aesthetics. Dental implants provide an ideal long-term solution to replace missing teeth, while digital smile design ensures that your new smile looks natural and balanced. This advanced approach allows us to create a truly customized, patient-specific approach for seamless and lasting results that not only restore function but also enhance your overall smile.
This case highlights a male patient that was missing a front tooth. He was concerned with the space, as well as the chipping and thinness of his front teeth. The restoration included a dental implant and full-coverage ceramic crowns.
Digital imaging combines photography, digital intraoral scans, and CBCT (3D X-rays) technology. Clinical photography captures detailed visuals of your smile, while intraoral scans create precise 3D models of your teeth and gums. With CBCT scans, we gain a comprehensive view of bone structure, nerves, and sinuses, allowing for accurate diagnosis and precise treatment planning. This powerful combination ensures a tailored, efficient approach to creating a beautiful, functional, long-term smile.
Using advanced EXOCAD software, we create a custom, patient-specific smile design right in the office. This powerful technology allows us to efficiently design your new smile with unparalleled precision and speed. Tailored to your unique facial features and dental needs, EXOCAD ensures a personalized, natural-looking result—all while streamlining the process for quicker treatment and beautiful outcomes.
The digital preplanning of smile design cases like this ensures for a streamlined, predictable and conservative tooth preparation appointment.
Due to the extensive erosion and missing tooth structure, full coverage crowns were indicated with minimal reduction. A dental implant was placed and needed to heal for 4 months

Experience your future smile before committing to the final ceramics with our 3D printed prototypes. These prototypes allow the patient to test-drive their custom smile design, allowing adjustments and ensuring the perfect fit and appearance. The remarkable fit and detail of these prototypes allow for astonishing tissue healing and visualization of the final restorations. This process provides confidence for both the clinician and patient regarding the predictability of desired outcome before moving forward with the final ceramic restorations. A 3D printed ceramic prototype is placed to allow for gingival contouring, while allowing time for the implant to fully integrate into the bone. The precision fit and durability of these long-term prototypes eliminates the need for a “flipper” or temporary “tray” during the healing phases of treatment.
Our combination of 3D printing and in-office milling allows us to transform smiles with speed and precision. Each restoration is fully customized to the patient’s unique needs and designed with an artistic touch for a natural, beautiful result. This streamlined process ensures quick fabrication without sacrificing the personalized detail that makes every smile truly unique.
A 3D printed model is used to ensure optimal esthetics of the ceramics. The models utilize materials that mimic tooth structure and gum tissue, all of which are created right in our lab. The ceramics are taken from a milled state, contoured, and then fired in one of our ceramic ovens. The restorations are then individualized with ceramic stains and glazing to give a truly “custom” result.
