Having a full set of teeth can completely change your quality of life. If you are missing a good portion of your teeth, your social situations can become stressful and embarrassing if you end up hiding your natural smile.
Dentures are a tried and true, traditional option if you need to replace partial or full portions of your teeth. Dentures can protect exposed gums, improve the functionality of your mouth, and allow you to share your renewed confidence with a healthy smile.
Are You a Candidate for Full or Partial Dentures?
If you are currently in any of the following situations you might be a perfect candidate for denture treatments:
- You are experiencing tooth decay requiring multiple extractions.
- You are missing the majority or all your natural teeth.
- Your gums are receding from age or disease.
- You have a lack of bone integrity or density for dental implants.
The Different Types, Full and Partial Dentures
You do not have to remove all your natural teeth to get dentures. There are diverse types of dentures available if you are needing replacement options for missing teeth:
- Full Sets: When you first think of dentures, you often are referring to a complete set. If you receive a full set of dentures, you are missing all your teeth, requiring a full mouth of replacement teeth to achieve a functioning and healthy smile.
- Partial Sets: If you still have some healthy natural teeth or are considering dental implants in the future, you can receive a partial set of dentures. These sets are made to sit on your gums next to existing teeth and can be adjusted as dental implants are added.

The Denture Procedure at Missouri River Dental
Dental Impressions-To make sure your dentures fit securely and comfortably on your gums, we will take an impression of your remaining teeth and gums to help create your appliance. If you need extractions of decayed or damaged teeth, Missouri River Dental will wait to take your impressions after your gums are healed to reduce the risk of loose dentures from swollen gums.
Wax Rims- To accurately measure the bite alignment of your teeth, we will use a set of wax rims. When placing the rims in your mouth, we can measure how the dentures will need to be formed to achieve a healthy bite.
Customized Teeth- In your initial appointments, Missouri River Dental will allow you to customize your dentures. By choosing the shape, size, and shade of teeth to be used, you can achieve the exact look you want for your smile. After gathering all the measurements and details, we will send the information to the dental lab for the creation of your appliance.
Trial Fit- To help you get accustomed to the feel of your new dentures, we will create a mock-up set to give you an idea of how they will look and feel. This trial also helps us make any small adjustments needed to the fit and shape of the dentures before creating the final set of full or partial dentures.
Final Fitting- When the mock-up set has been approved, the dental lab will create the final partial or full denture for your restoration. You will return to Missouri River Dental for your final fitting to make any minor adjustments needed before completion. We want your dentures to feel comfortable and secure before leaving the appointment to prevent any discomfort or soreness.
Check-Up Appointment- In some cases, check-up appointments might be advantageous if you feel uncomfortable with the fit. Tight or loose-fitting dentures may cause sores or swelling, preventing you from wanting to wear them as needed. Make an appointment with Missouri River Dental at the first sign of a problem to avoid discomfort and to help you get used to the dentures quicker.
