While it might take several weeks to receive a traditional dental crown, a CEREC crown uses CAD/CAM, Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing, to create your crown in just one single appointment.
CEREC Same Day Crowns
The CEREC procedure is a method used to digitally construct replacement tooth options, eliminating the need for traditional fillings and crowns. Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic (CEREC) crowns are more efficient and technologically advanced crowns and are becoming a popular and preferred option. Used in the dental industry since 1987, the CEREC method is a minimally invasive treatment that uses optical impression technology to precisely scan the damaged tooth. While it might take several weeks to receive a traditional dental crown, a CEREC crown uses CAD/CAM, Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing, to create your crown in just one single appointment. They provide a better bite and feel more like your natural teeth.
CEREC crowns fit flawlessly. They look and feel like a real tooth because of the computer-aided technology. After thorough measurements are captured with the scan, the data is used to create a ceramic filling or crown matching the exact shape and shade of the decayed tooth. When placed, the ceramic replacement bonds with the tooth leaving no gaps for decay to develop. You leave your appointment with little to no discomfort and without the worry of the ceramic restoration wearing down or failing.

Every year, thousands of people encounter restoration treatment of their teeth to remove tooth decay. Most of the treatments performed include dental fillings, crowns, replacement implants, and veneers. Most of these solutions require more than one visit to Missouri River Dental to diagnose and successfully treat the decay, with added appointments to create and place the restoration.
These multiple visits impact your insurance company, yourself, and us. Advancements in dental technology have resulted in this innovative approach to addressing your tooth decay requiring less time, less maintenance, and delivering a solution unlike current traditional practices: the CEREC same day crown.
The Benefits of a CEREC Same Day Crown
CEREC, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, can deliver the following benefits:
- The process of CEREC is quite economical, costing both you and our team minimal time and effort resulting in a long-lasting solution. It restores strength, saves your natural tooth and is a permanent solution.
- If you are a candidate for the CEREC method, you are scanned directly in your chair at Missouri River Dental with our mobile technology, avoiding the need for any bulky machinery or uncomfortable accommodations. Providing same day treatment with no messy impression materials.
- The objective of CEREC is to create a safe and effective restoration using shade matching technology to produce a natural and strong replication of your tooth.
- It provides a metal-free alternative to common filings and crowns. CEREC will produce aesthetically pleasing results, restoring your healthy smile.
- CEREC replacements are created with ceramic rather than metal to provide you with an alternative solution to a tooth restoration.
The CEREC Scan Eliminates Standard Impressions
If you have previously needed a traditional crown, dental filling, or veneer, it has been necessary to take an impression to achieve a close fit to the teeth in need of repair. These messy impressions are far from ideal and can result in an unwanted gag reflex response.
Sometimes, the impressions are not always perfectly accurate or correct. This will result in a poorly fitting replacement or the possible need to repeat the impressions. With the CEREC method, no impressions are needed. You simply undergo a one-to-two-minute scan that is far more accurate and effective than any standard impression can accomplish.

The CEREC Procedure with Acquisition and Milling Units
The CEREC procedure is comprised of two units that are responsible for the scanning and producing of high-quality restorations; the Acquisition unit, and the Milling unit.
The acquisition unit is a computer incorporating a special software program and unique camera used for the CEREC scans. This mobile device is used to scan the decayed or broken portions of the tooth in need of restoration.
After just a couple of minutes, the acquisition unit compiles all the data captured with the scan and begins the process to design the replacement needed for your treatment. The model will take the team at Missouri River Dental approximately five minutes to complete the design before it is sent over to the Milling unit for fabrication.
Using this data acquired by the acquisition unit, the milling unit fabricates the actual ceramic replacement for your tooth repair. Before the restoration begins, the ceramic is in the form of a block. Matching the shade needed for your replacement, we will take the selected block, insert it into the milling machine, and the machine begin sculpting.
The milling process can take between 10 to 20 minutes based on the size and design of the repair. After the restoration is completed, the ceramic piece is polished and then bonded to your tooth, all while you are just relaxing in our office at this single visit.
